AMHS Guidelines
The AMHS guide is a product of Spectrum’s clinical expertise, wisdom of people with lived experience and collaboration with Victorian Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Services (AMH & WBS).
The Victorian Department of Health nominated Spectrum as the lead agency in designing and delivering the PDI program to maximise confidence, competence and willingness of clinicians to work with people with a personality disorder and provide training to their AMH & WBS colleagues. Spectrum was also asked to develop standards of care and a guide for clinicians to provide the best possible evidence-based treatment available for people living with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and support their family/carers/partners/friends/kin in Victorian AMH & WBS.
The Personality Disorder Initiative (PDI) was developed as a model for building embedded capacity within the Victorian public mental health system for working optimally with people with a personality disorder. The design of the PDI was modelled on an earlier initiative, the Forensic Clinical Specialist Program, which provided sustainable capacity building via strategic service provision in four key activity areas - Clinical consultancy, Workforce Education & Training, Organisational Service development and Quality improvement, and Partnerships & Networking.
