Mildura Capacity Building project
Spectrum is building capacity in the regional area of Mildura

Training
Our regional capacity-building project in Mildura focuses on enhancing the skills and confidence of health and social sector professionals to better support individuals affected by borderline personality disorder (BPD) and complex trauma.
Through tailored training programs, including workshops we provide Victorian Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Services with evidence-based tools and trauma-informed approaches to improve therapeutic outcomes.
This initiative is particularly vital in regional and rural areas, where access to specialised care is often limited. By fostering a deeper understanding of the complexities of BPD and complex trauma, we empower professionals to provide compassionate and effective support, ultimately leading to improved mental health and well-being for individuals in these communities.
Since the launch of this project, Spectrum has trained over 150 people across the district. The organisations that have been included in the training include:
- Mildura Based Public Hospital (Mental Health Services)
- Inpatient team
- Acute Crisis Intervention Service (ACIS)
- Hospital Outreach Post-Suicide Engagement (HOPE)
- Community Teams (Adult; Child & Youth; Older Adult)
- Learning & Development Team
- Emergency Department
- Headspace
- Prevention and Recovery Care Services (PARC)
- Sunraysia Community Health Service
- Mallee Family Care (Mental Health and Carer Support Services)
- Mallee District Aboriginal Services (MDAS)
This project is due to be replicated in other regional areas including Bendigo in the near future.
Research
Spectrum are completing research to look at any potential change in culture regrading BPD, which includes a service-wide voluntary questionnaire, and focus groups (acute team and community team) and qualitative analysis will explore what impact this project has had on the service.
This is due to be done throughout 2025.
