Primary Care Workshops

Spectrum is rolling out a new series of workshops to general practitioners in Victoria. This training aims to build the confidence and capacity of health practitioners to support people with complex trauma related mental health conditions, personality disorder and suicidal distress.

The initiative hopes to build capacity and confidence in a primary care setting to enhance support for those with complex trauma histories and suicidal distress. There is a focus on individuals aged early 20s to mid 40s.

This training recognises the challenges in managing complex mental health issues in primary care. It aims to give general practitioners an improved ability to understand and recognise presenting symptoms, as well as apply evidence-based treatments.

Do you think your organisation would benefit from similar training? If so, email our Workforce Development Manager, Julie Middleton.

A Practical Guide for General Practitioners

Did you know Spectrum has developed a Practical Guide for General Practitioners (GPs). This is because GPs are likely to see at least one person with borderline personality disorder (BPD) among every 16 consultations per day (Gross et al 2022).

The Borderline Personality Disorder: A Practical Guide for General Practitioners is based on the best evidence and clinical experience available.

This book aims to provide clinically useful information about GBPD, demystify chronic self-injury and suicidal behaviours, and help GPs understand the medical condition.

GPs are encouraged to critically assess the information contained in this resource and use their own clinical judgement in relation to making treatment decisions.
