Message from Lived Experience Consumer - Bronwen
We’re in the final exciting stages of planning our new peer-led support group – formulated for people on the waitlist for treatment here at Spectrum.
This group has been designed – by our consumer lived experience team - to orient members within our service, and to provide hope and a sense of community. For some, this will be the first time they’ve been part of a group of people that share their diagnosis of personality disorder or complex trauma – diagnoses that are still highly stigmatised.
This group will draw on Intentional Peer Support as it’s central framework, and its design has also been informed by the work of our lived colleagues over at BPD Collaborative in South Australia, as well as resources developed by the lived team at the Scottish Recovery Network.
In planning this group, we have also taken inspiration from the kinds of resources that have been helpful in our own recovery journeys, such as evidence-based approaches that use creativity to regulate the autonomic nervous system.
With our first group session scheduled soon – we're working hard to create a welcoming space where participants feel seen, supported, and empowered. The evidence suggests that connection with lived experience staff can make a positive difference in terms of consumer engagement and activation within services. We aim to create a space in which we walk alongside each other, learning together. We can’t wait to begin.
