Spectrum has piloted a 10-session brief DBT group program that could be replicated in settings that have a limited time frame for therapeutic interventions.
We have also started integrating the Prolonged Exposure treatment protocol into the DBT program for those that require specific treatment for their post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) concurrently with treatment for their personality disorder.
As well as providing treatment here at Spectrum, the team often work zealously alongside external programs in the mental health sector to support model of care development and provide expert supervision to programs striving to provide effective DBT with the resources they have.
Marianne Weddell, with the support of Cathryn Pilcher and Zoe Gibbs, have supported mental health and forensic teams, and helped set up DBT programs within regional Victoria through a collaborative model-of-care development project.
This year, Spectrum hosted a DBT Intensive Training with Behaviour Tech trainers Mike Batcheler (New Zealand) and Carla Walton (Australia) to support the development of DBT programs in teams throughout Australia. This nine-day training over a course of six months was attended by teams from Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania, and participants collectively agreed the training was of the highest quality they have received.
