What if I don't meet the criteria for AMHS?
If you don't meet AMHS criteria, consider visiting Community Mental Health Services. These may offer support for individuals not requiring specialised care.
You can visit your GP to discuss your mental health; they may refer you to a therapist via a GP Mental Health Care Plan or can refer for a 291 Psychiatry Assessment under Medicare *there may be gap fees for these.
There are also a number of non-Governmental organisations such as Beyond Blue and Lifeline that provide support and resources. Click here for link to further information on our website.
Private Practitioners such as Psychologists and Counsellors can offer services without AMHS involvement.
Can my GP refer me to Spectrum services?
Spectrum does not accept referrals for an assessment from general practitioners (GP's). A referral is needed from a Victorian Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Service clinician only before an assessment can be considered.
